Apple has shifted over 200,000 Vision Pro headsets since pre-orders began on 19 January in the US.
That's according to a report from MacRumors citing a source who has knowledge of Apple's sales numbers, with the 'spatial computer' surpassing the landmark after around 10 days of availability.
If true, this would provide us with a slightly updated idea of the initial interest in Vision Pro.
Last week, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple had taken 160,000-180,000 pre-orders during the initial weekend, which means a further 20,000-40,000 have been added in the week since.
It may seem as if those numbers don't add up at first glance, but, as Kuo himself has pointed out, Vision Pro pre-orders were always likely to slow following an initial burst due to the niche nature of the product.
Shipping times also remained unchanged within the first 48 hours of availability, which would also indicate a quick drop in demand once the first flurry was over. By comparison, the iPhone would typically see the shipping times steadily increasing over the initial couple of days of pre-orders.
Other reports in the last few months have suggested Apple will produce around 500,000 Vision Pro headsets in total, so reaching something akin to 200,000 in pre-orders would still appear to be a solid start for the company.
However, with such a lofty price even for the base edition of the headset, it's also anybody's guess whether a steady flow of orders will be sustained. Whatever the case, it's an intriguing start.
