We’re about a month out from the expected Apple Watch refresh – and the immutable Mark Gurman has offered up some information on what we might expect.
We’ve already reported on rumors that the Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to be a minor update and that Apple is prepping for a bigger refresh, in the form of the Apple Watch Series X, in 2024.

And that’s exactly what’s been reported (again) by Gurman via his Power On newsletter.
He writes that: “In terms of new features, [this year's Apple Watch updates] are arguably the most minor upgrade in the product’s history."
Gurman reports that new processors and colors are the most we can expect.
In terms of hardware, that will include a new Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra refresh.
However, watchOS 10 has been a sizeable change – so we’re sure Apple will talk up new features over new hardware.
But Gurman says the big innovations are in store for the Apple Watch’s 10th anniversary.
He states that the Apple Watch X will have a revamped thinner design, refined straps, and “a microLED display that tops the color and clarity of the current OLED screens, as well as a technology for monitoring blood pressure.”
That would be the kind of leap forward that we’ve been waiting for, and would be a starting pistol for a round of medical innovation that will dominate and color the discussion around wearables in the second half of this decade.
Gurman reports that the Apple Watch Series 9 will be unveiled on Sept. 12 – but we will, of course, update with more information as we get it.
