Honor is preparing to launch a set of truly wireless earbuds capable of measuring temperature from the ears.
The company formerly owned by Huawei has shared a promo poster showing off the Honor Earbuds 3 Pro, which will officially be unveiled alongside its new Magic 4 smartphone at its MWC 2022 event. The Pro will become the first truly wireless buds to offer the ability to track temperature.

There's no details in terms of how it will offer those monitoring powers or how it will present the data, but we'd hazard a guess that it will likely be based around some form of light-based optical sensor technology. Dedicated thermometers that take temperature readings from the ear do already exist of course, so it'll be interesting to see Honor's approach to adding this skill to its new buds.
We've already seen earbuds from the likes of Jabra and Amazfit offer heart rate monitoring from the ears via optical sensors while Fitbit introduced skin temperature sensors on its Versa 3 and Sense smartwatches. Wearables like the Oura Ring 3 and the Whoop 4.0 also offer the ability to keep tabs on how hot or cold you are through optical sensor setups.
None of those devices however claim that monitoring is designed for medical use and we'd anticipate it'll be the same story with Honor's temperature tracking buds as well. Though that's not to say the information couldn't be useful as far as indicating that something might not be quite right.
Outside of that temperature feature, it seems that the Earbuds 3 Pro will adopt a similar look to previous Honor buds and will apparently deliver high-quality sound, active noise cancellation and a transparency mode.
There's no suggestion of price just yet, though if it's anywhere near the £50 the Honor Earbuds 2 Lite came in at when they launched in 2021, the Earbuds 3 Pro could end up being a bit of a steal.
All of the key details about how they work and when they'll be available will be revealed at Honor's MWC 2022 event, which takes place on the 28 February. So, it's not too long a wait to find out if Honor has managed to pack in a really useful feature into a set of truly wireless buds.
