The wait for the Mobvoi Wear OS 3 update rumbles on, with the company now providing word that the rollout won't occur until Q3 2023 at the earliest.
After months of silence regarding the upgrade, a Mobvoi customer service representative has noted on a related Facebook group that the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra and TicWatch E3 are in line for the update between the start of July and the end of September.
Curiously, only these two smartwatches were referenced in the customer update, which would suggest that the standard TicWatch Pro 3 may be left out altogether.
The new information also arrives after all of Mobvoi's rival manufacturers have adjusted to Wear OS 3. After Samsung debuted the software back in 2021, Fossil and its cohort of fashion brands provided the update in late 2022 to both new and legacy devices.
Mobvoi should have updated its own devices around the same time - as it suggested it would to Wareable exclusively way back in 2021.
Yet, at least according to the message sent by the Mobvoi representative, the company has instead focused on other projects.
"According to information that our product specialist received directly from the manufacturer Mobvoi, the manufacturer decided to assign priority to other projects. The current information is that the update is planned for the third quarter of this year," the message reads.
This most likely relates to the potential release of the TicWatch Pro 5 - the smartwatch that was first teased last summer at Qualcomm's Snapdragon W5+ chipset launch, leaked out in a render in January, and most recently had its FCC filing potentially uncovered.
We suspect that the Wear OS 3 update may finally land alongside the official announcement of this new smartwatch, but, given what we've seen from Mobvoi so far, predicting timelines feels relatively futile.
Stay tuned, though, as we'll share any further information as we get it.
