Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has launched three new wearables including its new Redmi Watch 2 – which is going on sale globally.
It has launched two budget smartwatches and a fitness tracker. Redmi's affordable smartwatches have previously been aimed at the developing world – but it now seems as if some will be available globally.
While the flagship Redmi Watch 2 looks to be staying in China for now, the more affordable Redmi Watch 2 Lite is available to buy globally.
Read on for our run down of the Redmi 2021 wearables line-up.
Redmi Watch 2
Leading the field is the Redmi Watch 2. It packs in a 1.6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 360 pixels.
You get 117 sports modes with automatic detection for the most common exercise. And it will track swims thanks to 5ATM water resistance.
There's a heart rate sensor, an SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen and the usual array of accelerometer gyroscope.
There’s no altimeter – but you do get GPS, which is a nice addition on a budget smartwatch.
The Redmi platform will also connect to the likes of Strava, so this is a decent option for runners.
On the health front there’s sleep tracking, stress monitoring, menstrual cycle tracking, and you can do guided breathing exercises, too.
Redmi has confirmed Chinese pricing as ¥399, which looks to be around $62/£50.
Redmi Watch 2 Lite
Next came the Redmi Watch 2 Lite, which scales back the hardware – and looks like it will be heading to Western shores.
The 1.6-inch AMOLED of the main Watch 2 is out, replaced with a 1.55-inch IPS, which will be a significant drop in quality.
However, it retains the heart rate sensor, SpO2 and, most surprisingly, the GPS sensor.
It’s still 5ATM water resistant and the battery will last 5 days of heavy use.
And it's gone on sale via AliExpress, which lists a US price of $62 and a UK price of £49 – not including shipping costs.
That means it will compete with the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite in Western markets.
Redmi Smart Band Pro
Finally, we have the Redmi Smart Band Pro, which is the latest device to ape the Huawei Watch Fit.
It boasts the same long screen, somewhere between a fitness tracker and smartwatch.
It’s a 1.47-inch AMOLED panel which kicks out an impressive 450 nit – with a 194 x 368 resolution.
It has a sport focus, with 110 trackable profiles with running, swimming and yoga.
However, it doesn’t seem to have GPS onboard, so it’s more aimed at those doing home or gym workouts than runners and cyclists.
It has a heart rate sensor on board, and will also monitor blood oxygen via an SpO2 sensor, and it will also keep tabs on stress and menstrual cycles.
Typical battery life is estimated at 14 days – and it can last up to 20 days in a low power mode.
Pricing is also yet to be decided – so watch this space.
