Xiaomi has given a global launch to the S1 Pro smartwatch at MWC 2023 in Barcelona.

The device was much rumored to launch at the show – and Xiaomi has confirmed that it will cost £299 ($350) and launches on the Mi Store. It's unlikely to get a full US release.

Leading the changes is a larger screen, with a 1.47-inch AMOLED display and 480 x 480 resolution.

That’s a slight jump in size and resolution from the standard Xiaomi Watch S1, and there's been a reduction in the size of the bezels for an overall improved design.

The S1 Pro also adds a crown to the case, which replaces one of the buttons on the older model.

The case has also changed slightly with amended lugs. There are two options available, black with a fluoroelastomer strap, or silver with a brown leather band.

Both devices have an always-on display, and both use a sapphire crystal for improved scratch resistance over glass.

Xiaomi has also added a temperature sensor to its device, although it’s not clear how this will be utilized as part of the standard health tracking offering.

GPS is on board, as well as a PPG heart rate monitor with SpO2, but there’s no ECG on board.

There are 14 days of battery thanks to a 500mAh battery.

This will of course be shorter when some of the more advanced features and turned on – but it’s an excellent headline figure that will be sure to turn heads.

Wareable says:

This was one of the worst-kept secrets, but it’s a solid smartwatch with some excellent numbers on the spec sheet.

However, £299 is a lot of money to tempt people to buy a Xiaomi smartwatch – and these Android devices don’t have core features such as wrist-based payments, or an App Store.

Battery life is a head-turner – but we’re not sure that this will be the device that gives Xiaomi the foothold it craves in the European smartwatch market.
